SSC-CGL Exam Overview

The SSC Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) exam is conducted in multiple tiers to recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C government posts. Here is an overview of the exam structure and the posts it is conducted for :

Mode: Online computer-based test
Tiers: Two main tiers - Tier 1 and Tier 2 (sometimes followed by Tier 3 and Tier 4 for specific posts)
Tier 1: Preliminary Exam
Objective multiple-choice questions from four sections:
General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 questions, 50 marks)
General Awareness (25 questions, 50 marks)
Quantitative Aptitude (25 questions, 50 marks)
English Comprehension (25 questions, 50 marks)
Total 100 questions, 200 marks
Duration: 60 minutes
Negative marking: 0.50 marks for each wrong question
This tier is qualifying in nature
Tier 2: Main Exam
Also computer-based with multiple papers:

Reasoning & General Intelligence
English Language & Comprehension
General Awareness
Computer Knowledge Test (qualifying)
Data Entry Speed Test (for certain posts)
Tier 2 marks are counted for final merit
Duration varies for each paper, typically 2 hours for main papers
